Tales of the Rainforest 2018

For Full Orchestra

Composed by Gabrielle Liriano

This piece is about all the soul searching that can be done when one steps away from the city and all their goals for just a moment to be surrounded by beauty and nature, a pause where permission is granted to wonder, reflect, feel, and discover.

What it Means to Rise 2017

For Wind Symphony

Composed by Gabrielle Liriano

This piece is about the messy path to growth and to becoming a new version of you. It’s about what it means to let go of everything you thought you knew, having it nearly destroy you and your identity before picking up the parts of a shattered, ripped up puzzle and putting something new and more beautiful together. This piece is about growing up and changing. It’s about having dared greatly with ones dreams, going into the jungle, and coming out the other side happy and safe and having proved that one is capable and able to take on the heavy obstacles of life.

After Dark 2022
For Saxophone Quartet

Composed by Gabrielle Liriano

A fictionalized and romanticized scene of the noir city night life. This piece is an attempt to provoke the fantasy nostalgia for an exciting evening amongst the glowing neon signs of seedy dim lit bars, cigars, yellow cabs, and expensive cocktails. Dressed in pearls, black tights, and stilettos, trench coats, and an assortment of fashionable hats. This piece is set in flickering alley ways and wide windy lamp lit streets under a dark sky where bright busses whip by. The night is young and under the looming moon troublemakers make questionable plans. Those observing will wonder with intrigue. What are they up to?

The Architect 2022
For Woodwind Quintet

Composed by Gabrielle Liriano

The architect ponders, calculates, and designs monumental structures larger than themselves. They build and they figure how to fit every corner with every square. What the architect does we all do with are lives. Creating and computing skyscrapers, masterpieces out of lifetimes with limitless minds carefully crafting rooms with windows that let in our energy source of light from the sun.The architect blueprints the impossible, but with encouragement from the divine, the architect makes those blueprints a reality. Their creation will take up space in the world and reach for the sun higher than the birds fly in the sky. The architect will look up when it is done and wonder how they did it. The architect is a maker. They make what they are meant to make.

Wind and Wonder 2020

Solo for Flute

Composed by Gabrielle Liriano

This piece is an attempt to capture "peace" and "mystery" with motifs meant to reflect a breezy wind, lazy trees, and a golden hot sun. The character of this piece finds themself following a firefly through new and unknown terrain. This piece was a collaboration with Emma Piedilato, the performer, who interpreted these images and the score.

Finding Oasis 2018

For Flute, Violin, Cello, & Piano

Composed by Gabrielle Liriano

This piece is about a character being stranded in the desert unequipped and unskilled at the demands it takes to survive until the universe in all its mystical power grants the character with some solace- an oasis, a place with water and shelter, a place of peace.

Follow the Omens 2018

For Flute Choir

Composed by Gabrielle Liriano

Follow the Omens tells the story of a huntress lost in a forest. The forest is beautiful, but dense filled with all sorts of peculiar creatures, rustling sounds, earthy smells, and lush natural scenes.

There are no obvious trails out of the forest and the huntress fears she might never find her way back home. She finds herself running away from anonymous threats, the startling sounds of things she cannot see and relies on signs the forests gives her to bring her to safety.

One might imagine the end of this piece as arriving at the edge of cliff to a striking view, the presence cozy cabin, or a humble village. Ultimately, the forest guides the huntress home.

Adventures at the Park 2018
Bassoon Solo
Composed by Gabrielle Liriano

Comet 2017

For String Orchestra  & Harp

Composed by Gabrielle Liriano

I encourage any players or listeners of this piece to dig into its cinematic nature and paint a scene of stars and the magic and vastness of outer space. Let the music take you there. Where there is much still unknown and so much still to discover.

“Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.” –Albert Einstein

Rendered Restless 2017

For String Quartet

Composed By Gabrielle Liriano

The character of this piece wakes up dazed, confused, and in a bewildering fog. With a heavy head and dense limbs he struggles through the morning. Like a lagging computer, each task takes many moments to survey before acting upon when suddenly the character remembers the most pressing project is due. Urgency washes over him as he throws his things into a backpack, wrestles with his shoes, and stumbles out the door. He embodies a nervous sprint towards lateness.

The Talking Gardens 2017

Chamber Piece for Oboe, Bb Clarinet, Tuba, Violin, & Cello

Composed by Gabrielle Liriano

This piece paints imagery of a whimsical walk through a public garden. On an average day we walk right through it swiftly on our way to our important "to-dos", but sometimes when we have the extra minute we can become disrupted by beauty and entranced by living things. Our swiftness becomes a stroll as we give over our attention to wondrous tiny worlds around us.
