Inspired by the Agnus Dei
for Chamber Choir, SATTB
 
This piece was commissioned by Choir & Organ for Apollo5 in partnership with the VOCES8 Foundation as a reflection on and response to the Mass for Five Voices by William Byrd published in 1594. I particularly felt called to explore the 5th movement in the Ordinary of the Catholic Mass which is the Agnus Dei. This work is both classic and contemporary. It takes a leap in exploring more modern rhythmic and chordal structures while immersed in religious text. It's both energetic and still with an intention of contrasting William Byrd's Agnus Dei with great reverence to the ancient text. I hope you enjoy the direction in which I took the piece. I certainly had a lot of fun designing the unique soundscape.
